Our Mission
Elimu Empowerment Services is a nonprofit that works to empower refugees, asylees, immigrants and parolees. We use the tools of education, leadership training, career counseling, mentorship, social integration, and employment services to create an environment where participants can evolve into successful contributing members of society. Our goal is to break down barriers for our participants and help them achieve an economically stable and community driven life.

To empower the immigrant and refugee population through education, to assist the immigrant improve in the educational skills, and to be recognized as leaders in building capacity in the lives of immigrants and refugees in the United States of America
The Value We Bring
Elimu is the nonprofit in Tennessee that works directly with immigrants who already have special skills. We firmly believe that our participants bring value to the American workforce, and we use our programs to develop these professionals to succeed. Unlike many humanitarian nonprofits, we see that each participant achieves their end goal, with lifetime follow-up and support.
Educating
Above all, Elimu Empowerment Services provides the resources for participants to learn. We use asset based community development to focus on the skills a participant already has, is interested in, or we see the potential in to strategically advance each individual in life. From language learning, career coaching, mentorship placement, and employment services, we educate each participant on how they can thrive in the United States. We also believe formal education is an integral tool, and provide primary education aid and college prep assistance through many different avenues.

Integrating
Elimu Empowerment Services creates space for refugees, asylees, immigrants and parolees to learn about American culture in a safe, positive environment. We teach newcomers how to healthily assimilate into social circles, careers, and education systems. We celebrate their history and culture while helping pave a path for a successful, community filled future. We teach the rule of law and emphasize leadership development.
Connecting
At Elimu Empowerment Services, we strive to break down the social and economical barriers for each participant. We provide mentors, group education and tutoring programs, career development resources, and employment services. We believe that connection and intimacy with others helps our participants tap into their fullest potential. We also diligently lift the voices of our participants, making sure that they are represented in decision-making bodies.
Cultivating
We empower our participants to grow into who they are made to be. We believe that all participants can be successful members of our society, and can help change the world. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to grow professionally, emotionally, and socially, regardless of economic status, nationality, education level, or past. We help everyone to reach their unique potential through our established strategic programming, for life.
